Our story

pROViding exceptional dance training since 1977.

In 1977 Ms. Joan Dorothy started a dance studio in the basement of her home on the 14th Line of West Gwillimbury. Located in the country it started out rather small but within six years had grown to over two hundred students.

The move from the basement of her bungalow in the country to the town of Bradford was a necessity. In 1983 the Simcoe Dance Academy opened in Bradford where it grew to an astonishing four hundred members within that same season. Miss. Sheila (now the owner and Ms. Dorothy’s daughter) became a full time teacher in the fall of 1986. The pair ran the studio together for more than twenty-five years, at one point the teaching faculty ranged three generations.

Ms. Dorothy retired in 2009 leaving the studio in Miss. Sheila’s capable hands. With the help of her own two daughters, Miss. Alex and Miss. Mikayla, the studio has captured many top studio awards at competitions at the Regional and National levels. In addition they have trained numerous successful candidates in Professional examinations including the very prestigious Solo Seal Award through the Royal Academy of Dance.
